Ancient Cycles of Civilization?

Most people believe we started with the caveman and advanced to modern man in a straight line of development.

What if this is wrong? 

What if there were ancient civilizations in the remote past that were far more advanced but subsequently disappeared for some mysterious reasons leaving no records except for their buildings.

Questions of Building Techniques

For example, there is the carefully engineered stone construction in the Egyptian pyramids, Peru and elsewhere but allegedly the builders only had primitive tools at their disposal for their construction and placement.

Another example is Baalbek in Lebanon which dates back 10,000 years. There is a major question how these enormous "foundation stones, particularly those of the Trilithon, more than 10 times the weight of the individual blocks which make up the Great Pyramid at Giza - were lifted into place." This site and buildings existed long before the Roman empire arrived to build their temples on the ruins.

How Was This Done?

The exquisite skills and precision suggests the builders had advanced building techniques that we can not even replicate today. Some suggest they had help from outside sources to assist with their building techniques but no proof is offered.
